Ben Roethlisberger
Ben Roethlisberger was a thin wide receiver before he became well-known in the NFL. When he was a senior was when he earned the number 1 quarterback spot.
In Ohio, Ben Roethlisberger earned the “Mr. Football” honors, which is something to be proud of. Ben set state records for throwing yards and touchdowns.
Ben was player of the year in High School. Unfortunately, his team lost in the second round of the state playoffs. Ben Roethlisberger was also a basketball player in High School and earned high praise as a senior in High School. Ben was all-league in basketball and baseball and was also the captain.
The Miami (Ohio) football staff was the first school to recruit Ben. They waited until he actually played a game and in his first game, he threw six touchdowns. Miami was the school where he ended up playing.
In 2000, Ben Roethlisberger had a red-shirt season, so he sat out. Ben was able to win the starting job in 2001. In Ben’s first home game, he ended up with a victory with good stats. Ben’s first season was great with 25 touchdowns and his second season was followed up with 22 touchdowns.
Ben’s command of the offense really was better in his third season. Ben set just about every record at the school of Miami and one game threw for 440 yards. Ben had the honor to see his college jersey retired. This was the first time in 34 years that they retired his number. His former coach lost a battle to cancer and the two will be forever linked. Scouts from all 32 teams found their way to watch Ben play. The Green Bay and New York coaches were two coaches that were there. The scouts watched the players lift weights, and run agility drills.
