Royal Ballet School’s Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme Expands Global Reach

The Royal Ballet School continues to extend its influence through the Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP), an initiative designed to bring its prestigious training methods to dance teachers worldwide. Since its launch in 2022, ATAP has allowed educators to integrate the school’s teaching philosophy into their own studios, ensuring that students outside the institution receive training that reflects the highest standards of classical ballet. With more than 46 teachers already certified and an additional 29 in training, the Royal Ballet School is rapidly expanding its global network of affiliated educators.

One of the defining aspects of the Royal Ballet School’s Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme is its emphasis on comprehensive ballet education. Teachers enrolled in ATAP learn how to train students beyond traditional ballet technique, incorporating ballet appreciation, repertoire, and creative movement into their lessons. Additionally, Francesca Hayward, a Principal of The Royal Ballet and an alumna of the Royal Ballet School, was appointed as ATAP’s Lead Ambassador. The Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme is designed to be flexible, allowing teachers to implement it in a way that complements their existing curricula. Some educators choose to incorporate ATAP techniques into their regular classes, while others offer separate sessions dedicated to the program. The Royal Ballet School provides affiliate teachers with extensive resources, including written materials, video demonstrations, and regular professional development workshops.

Teachers attend three professional development sessions annually, covering topics such as pedagogy, curriculum development, and assessment techniques. They also gain access to enrichment workshops led by faculty members from the Royal Ballet Companies.
