Randy Douthit’s Career As a TV Show Producer

Randy DouthitRandy Douthit started pursuing his passion as a TV show producer and director at na early age of 9. At the age of 10, he was producing his first show in his grandmother’s storehouse, for which he charged 10 cents per ticket. He landed his first job on TV as a producer of a children’s show, ‘How Come,’ which aired on Portland’s TV station, KGW. He then worked on ‘Seattle Today,’ a show whose audience grew ten times over the period he worked there.

Since the beginning of his career at KGW, Randy Douthit has worked on several other shows and won several awards for his work. He produced ‘Capital Gang,’ a weekly news show, and executive produced ‘Crossfire’ when CNN was coming up. Other shows produced by Douthit include ‘Jenny Jones,’ ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ and ‘Jenny Jones.’

Among Randy’s greatest works is the show ‘Judge Judy,’ which aired in 1996 and ended in 2021. It won several awards over the 25 years it aired and prepared Randy Douthit for his current role at IMDb’s ‘Judy Justice.’

‘Judy Justice’ debuted towards the end of 2021 and had its first 120 episodes produced within three months. It was a difficult task that needed hard work and discipline to accomplish during the pandemic. Despite a producer’s hardest task being ensuring that things happen as planned, Randy shares other challenges of producing during the covid-19 pandemic. He says that producing at the height of covid-19 is an expensive exercise. The containment measures and tests often cost a lot of time. This means that each episode now takes longer to produce compared to pre-pandemic days.

He advises people to build a career on things they love doing. It is his passion for TV show production and his determination that has made him successful this far. He has earned several awards throughout his career, including two Peabody, six Emmy, and six CableACE awards.
