Kelcy Warren was born around 1955 in Gladewater, Texas, a tiny town in the state’s east. He is the youngest of four sons. His dad started as a ditch digger and gauger for Sun Oil, and he worked his way up to field clerk. His father wasn’t particularly driven, but he was happy in his profession and appreciated the flexibility it gave him to do things like watch his son play football and hang out with friends at the local coffee shop. His family devoted much time and energy to the Baptist church, attending services not once but twice every Sunday. Warren’s mother was his den leader in the Boy Scouts when he was a kid, and his dad went on to become his Scoutmaster. During Warren’s high school years, his parents took leadership positions: his father was president of the school board, and his mother was president of the parent-teacher association. Kelcy Warren recognized that having parents actively involved in his life gave him an edge over some of his friends.

While working full-time, Warren’s parents were always looking for ways to increase their income. They started a trailer park as a business to assist the family financially.
