Happy Joe’s Focaccia Sandwiches
Happy Joe’s is one of the many restaurants to serve dishes with unusual names, such as “The Original Goo.” They also have more traditional dishes like pasta, fries, and sandwiches for those lunch breaks or late-night cravings. Happy Joe’s business model is simple; they only have a few products on the menu to help keep costs down. They are then able to focus on customer service and have customer loyalty.
Happy Joe’s American Pizza Parlor is a very successful family-style restaurant because they know that the secret to success is in the food. The food they serve will keep their customers coming back repeatedly and will make their customers happy throughout the years. Their food is made with fresh ingredients, which also makes all of their customers happy.
To start, Happy Joe’s serves authentic Italian sandwiches, such as meatball parmesan heroes. Also, freshly baked hoagie roll heroes, Hero-Bites (a smaller version of a hero), focaccia sandwiches, and much more! They also have pasta dishes served with a sauce made fresh daily by roasting tomato sauce over 20 hours, giving it its distinct flavor.
The first Happy Joe’s restaurant opened in 1964 on Darby Road in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania suburb of Swarthmore. Its founder, Joe Margolis, saw a need for affordable family dining and opened his restaurant with such affordable meals.
He began creating Happy Joe’s by raising $6,000 from family and friends and $1,000 from a bank loan. It was reportedly to serve as seed money for the new gourmet pizza restaurant. When Happy Joe’s first began, it was initially only open as a luncheonette (the place where people go during lunchtime). Still, with assistance from Drexel University’s “Penn Center” program, this soon changed to include dinner services as well.
