Greg Blatt; Game Development Guru

Greg Blatt is a writer, game designer, and game development professional who has been published in major publications across the web.

He is a writer for roleplaying games and a graduate of NYU (they have a good writing program), where his vampire-themed RPG Mythos was released through the university’s Forge system. He’s also been published on gaming websites like Armorama, Polygon, and PCGamesN. Blatt is an avid roleplayer and writer.

He has been a member of the New York RPG Group (NYRPG) since it first began in 2002 and had been writing for the group’s official magazine, NYRpG Magazine, since 2005. He also had a story published in the recent NYRPG anthology The Midnight Hour: Stories of Terror and Magic. Blatt has also worked as a community manager for New York RPG Group and organized numerous gaming events at Gen Con Indy 2014, including the recently canceled NYRPG-themed Adventure Exchange 2015.

Greg Blatt was on the front lines with NYRPG members against corporate greed when Wizards of the Coast tried to remove NYRPG’s domain name (www.nyrpg.net), and he ran this site to express his concerns about the RPG industry and his mission to fight for a better future. His writing has always tried to express social criticism and the issues that gaming causes while remaining accessible and approachable to the average reader.

Greg Blatt has been in contact with NYRPG members over the past few weeks, who have decided to step back from long-time activities at NYRPG because they were concerned about Greg’s behavior as a roleplayer and as an individual. The current status of NYRPG is that it has suspended operations indefinitely on behalf of its participants’ safety but will continue publishing online content for fans until further notice.

Greg is currently working on a book project in collaboration with the NYRPG community, called The New York Vampire Society. He has also been playing HEX, Hex: TCG and Hex: Legend of the Burning Sands since early 2014, and finally has a chance to play his game at Gen Con 2015. Blatt is excited about his work on this PC game, as it’s based on his ideas for Dungeons & Dragons which he was unable to realize due to being black-balled from the industry. He hopes that this title will allow for more people to become interested in roleplaying games and roleplaying culture overall. See related link for additional information.
