Business Leader Football Soccer

Gino Pozzo, legal owner of Watford Football Club

Gino Pozzo is the current owner of Udinese Calcio Football Club. He is an Italian-born entrepreneur and businessman specializing in sports club ownership and management. In 2013, he became the first to own three different football clubs in three countries when he purchased the English club Watford FC.

Pozzo’s journey to owning a Premier League club began in Udine, Italy, where he was born into a family of entrepreneurs. His father, Giuliano, started a company that manufactured and sold woodworking machinery. The business did well and allowed the Pozzo family to purchase Udinese Calcio in 1986.

While Gino Pozzo was studying economics at the University of Bologna, he had the opportunity to intern with his family’s business. He quickly realized he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a businessman. After graduation, he went to work for his family’s company.

In 2008, the Pozzo family sold their business to an Italian private equity firm. With the sale of the company, Gino Pozzo had the opportunity to pursue his dream of owning a football club. He used the money from the sale of the family business to purchase Udinese Calcio from Giampiero Poccianti.

Under Pozzo’s ownership, it has seen success both on and off the pitch. The club has qualified for the UEFA Champions League four times and the UEFA Europa League six times. They have also won the Coppa Italia once.

The club has achieved this success thanks to Gino Pozzo’s leadership and vision. He has committed to building a strong youth academy and investing in the club’s infrastructure. This has allowed Udinese Calcio to produce some of the best young players in Europe.

To succeed in management, it is necessary to have a clear vision, which Gino Pozzo has in abundance. This quality has allowed him to take Udinese Calcio from a small club in Italy to one of the most respected clubs in Europe. Go here for related information.
