Dr. Andrew Jacono Helps Domestic Violence Survivors Heal
The Oprah Winfrey Network series Facing Trauma introduced viewers to a side of reconstructive surgery rarely covered in mainstream television: survivors of domestic violence receiving facial reconstruction to repair injuries left by their abusers. Dr. Andrew Jacono is among the surgeons behind that work, having provided reconstructive procedures to more than 100 survivors through the FACE TO FACE program at no cost to the patients.
A Program With Deep Roots
FACE TO FACE connects facial plastic surgeons with survivors whose visible injuries can serve as constant reminders of what they endured. For Dr. Andrew Jacono, the work fits a pattern that stretches back to childhood, when he sat beside a classmate with a cleft lip and palate on his school bus and watched her treatment by other students shift entirely after she underwent reconstructive surgery. That early exposure to the social power of facial repair shaped much of his later career.
Cleft Palate Missions Abroad and at Home
The domestic violence work sits alongside a separate humanitarian commitment. Dr. Andrew Jacono has performed more than 750 surgeries on children with cleft lips, palates, and other facial differences through Healing the Children, missions that run parallel to his private practice, where he is also known for the Minimal Access Deep-Plane Extended facelift technique he developed in the early 2000s.
Recognition for this volunteer record has followed him for over a decade. Dr. Andrew Jacono received the Most Compassionate Doctor Award consecutively from 2012 through 2022, an honor reserved for fewer than 3 percent of physicians. Dual board-certified and trained through Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, he continues to divide his time between paying patients seeking cosmetic procedures and survivors who need reconstruction after trauma, a combination that has come to define his practice as much as any single surgical technique.
