Andrea Riposati CEO – CEO and Co-Founder of Dante Labs
Andrea Riposati, CEO and co-founder of Dante Labs. The company is best known for its app, Renatus – the leading education platform for musical collaboration on mobile devices. Renatus gives musicians an easy way to collaborate and practice effectively together in either a small group or orchestra setting. The app supports musicians in practicing new skills, writing music, and creating harmony with other musicians.
- Early Life
Andrea Riposati grew up in the village of Borgia near Ancona, Italy. He started singing when he was five and began playing an instrument at age ten. Andrea attended music school and studied violin under Paolo Antichi, who has played with classical artists such as Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli. He studied computer science in college, focusing on artificial intelligence, music theory, advanced programming skills, and web programming languages like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- Career
Andrea Riposati embarked on a career in computer science when he completed his undergraduate studies in Italy. After completing his post-graduation work, he was hired by the University of Cambridge in England to work as a software engineer. He then worked for a company called Cambridge Singers. This performance group performed concerts with top classical musicians such as Sir Simon Rattle, Anna Maria Jopek, and Placido Domingo. During this time, he began applying machine learning techniques to music education, publishing his research in the Journal of Computer Science Education.
- Achievements
Andrea developed the idea for his app, Renatus, while at Cambridge Singers. He was running through a piece of music while practicing and talked with other musicians about how they could practice better together. The group decided to create an app to help them with their practice sessions so that they could synchronize their efforts more efficiently. They began developing it in 2012 when Andrea was twenty-one years old, and he moved back to Italy because he wanted to be closer to his family and the customer base in Italy. The company is based in Rome, Italy, and created partnerships with several musical institutes, including the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England, and Musikene in Spain.
To be successful, you need to be obsessed with your idea and willing to work through any issues that arise in your business. You can’t be loyal to the idea; you need to be dedicated only to the company. Andrea had a mentor who taught him this lesson after starting a company that closed down later. The key has the flexibility to pivot when necessary.
