Boosting Innovative Development and On-Orbit Compute with Tom Keane of Microsoft Azure Global

Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Azure Global, Tom Keane, is leading the development of innovative technologies focused on space applications. Under his guidance, Microsoft is helping to develop tools and platforms that reduce barriers to entry for space app development, making it more accessible for developers and organizations across industries.

Tom is helping to increase flexibility and modularity in existing space solutions and focusing on cloud computing at the ultimate edge. In partnership with NASA and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Microsoft has developed an AI workload test that runs in the International Space Station (ISS) to detect damage to astronaut equipment. Tom Keane explains that by using its cloud computing platform, a computer vision application was deployed aboard HPE’s Spaceborne Computer-2.

It was also operated at ultimate edge analysis glove conditions on and off-site. Additionally, partnerships are being created to provide new capabilities for on-orbit computing, such as developments with Thales Alenia Space (TAS). Together, as Tom Keane informs, they are creating powerful onboard computers, application frameworks, and high-performance Earth Observation sensors, unlocking new on-orbit climate data processing applications to benefit global sustainability.

Tom Keane: Microsoft's Cloud Computing MVP

There is more on this concern. Blackshark Artificial Intelligence teams work closely with their counterparts in computer vision and research clusters to demonstrate potential capabilities when combined with a high level of onboard computing for Earth exploration. Additionally, Tom Keane from Microsoft Corporation informs, their analysis models have been integrated within Azure Orbital to facilitate analysts studying space data quickly.

As Corporate Vice President of Azure Global under the Microsoft umbrella, Tom Keane’s drive towards developing innovative solutions paired with accessible cloud power will continue to reach out into the next frontier allowing developers easier access than ever before. By reducing entry barriers to development and unifying cloud operations across all areas, from scientists to everyday people around the world, he is helping open up a whole new world of possibilities powered by Microsoft Azure.
