Championing Religious Freedom: The Alliance Defending Freedom

Every person has the right to religion, and when this right is abused, Alliance Defending Freedom steps in. ADF was instituted in 1994 by a Christian group to fight for everyone’s religious freedom. Though launched by Christians, the organization has spread its wings to Muslims, Jews, and every other faith. To libertarians and conservatives, ADF has been a shoulder to lean on.

Formerly known as Alliance Defense Fund, ADF advocates for tolerance in society even when people vehemently disagree. Though the organization fights for everyone, it strongly rejects gay marriages. The organization believes God authored marriage between a man and a woman. Those who get prosecuted for opposing gay marriage always find legal refuge at Alliance Defending Freedom.

They once represented a floral artist who refused to customize a floral arrangement for a gay wedding. ADF argued the artist had a right to decide for herself. In addition, they argued that the government had no right to decide for people what to and not to do.

Besides freedom of religion, Alliance Defending Freedom advocates free speech in public universities and colleges. They believe no student should get punished for speaking or expressing one’s mind. Through the years, they have argued student court cases after harassment from their learning institutions.

The Alliance Defending Freedom holds a profound reverence for the sanctity of life. From conception to natural death, every person’s life should be safeguarded. Through this belief, the organization boasts of saving the life of Jesse Ramirez. Additionally, they fight for parental rights, believing that parents have the right to protect their children.

Most of ADF’s work has been in the United States, but it has been spreading its wings internationally. With global partners, they have been vocal in fighting for minority Shia Muslims in the Middle East. So far, the organization has played a significant role in 30 victories outside the United States. ADF has also argued numerous cases at the Supreme Court on behalf of religious leaders, churches, and organizations. Many have ended with sweet victories, the latest being Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
