Passion Is The Secret Behind Gino Pozzo

Gino Pozzo was born into a family dedicated to football. Starting in 1986 with the purchase of the Udinese Club by his father, Pozzo’s family have surrounded themselves with everything related to the sport. For some, this passion came as quite a shock as the family was once known for their incredible woodworking business.

From Toolmaking To Football

The purchase of the Udinese Club came from the profits of the family’s other business. For generations, they have been involved in the world of woodworking and even today still manage and own a small electrical appliance business in Spain. Although they sold their woodworking business in 2008, the decision did not come likely. Their passion of the game of football, however, helped to make the decision a reality. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Gino Pozzo soon became the owner of another club in 2009.

At The Forefront of Expansion

While living in Barcelona, Gino Pozzo became the leading figure in the family’s expansion of sports ownership. The decision to purchase the Granada football club was not an easy one and many others would not have considered it a wise one either. Faced with a debt in the millions and struggling to rise above the third division, the club did not have high hopes. Pozzo, however, was not dissuaded. In only two years, he was able to push the club into the Premiere League for the first time in over 35 years. This, however, was only the beginning.

Watford

Gino Pozzo purchased another club in 2012. Like Granada, the Watford Football Club was also heavily in debt and struggling to rise in the ranks. But just like before, Pozzo led the club to glory and allowed it to become a powerhouse of English football. With such a stunning success, it’s no surprise that many would agree that Pozzo’s passion for football is among the greats.
