Nick Millican: Temporary Van Life Helps Couple Buy Home in Scotland
Stacy, 36, and Max, 34, graduated from Cambridge and moved to London. Real estate agent Nick Millican is the one representing them. The young couple had good careers but knew their dream of owning a home was non-existent. The couple initially thought that they could possibly buy a house between Cambridge and the capital.
However, after a year of budgeting and saving, they realized they would not be able to come up with the deposit. As they shared with Nick Millican, the couple then came up with the idea of living in a van to save money. With a bonus that Max received, they bought a van. The couple rented a room in Cambridge while converting the van.
In 2018, the couple moved in the van and started living at a campsite in Chertsey, Surrey. It was a hard year of showering at work, cooking over a small camping oven, having limited possessions (Twitter).
Nick Millican keeps on explaining. Also, limited space, and feeling wet and sick all the time, but at the end of the year, Max received a job offer from the Scottish Marine Association. Their year living in a van had allowed them to save up money, so Max accepted the job offer, and they moved to Oban, Scotland. They put down £150,000 on a two-bedroom bungalow.
Once they had moved in, the couple began integrating into their community. Stacey found a job and wrote a book. The couple also became first-time parents to their daughter Mara. Knowing they were priced out of owning a home in London, Max and Stacey took extreme measures to save up money for a deposit; the tactic worked, and they now own a bungalow in Scotland. Real estate expert Nick Millican sees more couples taking measures to move away from London to become homeowners.
